Did you attend a preview discussion?

August 04, 2008 by sdc

So...were you one of the interested readers who attended one of the five Preview Discussions in the past 10 days? If so, we'd love to hear from you -- what did you think? Did you learn anything new about the One Book process that you weren't aware of? What interested you the most?

I wasn't able to attend any of these, but I'm looking forward to opportunities to discuss any or all of these books. When will the schedule be made available?

The selected title for all of our special programming events will be announced on September 8th. A schedule of potential book discussion dates and locations should be available around that time.

Thanks for asking!

I was not able to attend, but I do plan on listening to the podcast from A Novel Idea. I have read 3 of the nominees so far!

Which? And what did you think of them?

I have read 4 of the 5 nominated titles. Here are my thoughts on them:
The Book Thief-- I liked it but not as much as anticipated, given the brief on the cover. It wasn't as good as the previous book club titles. The author brought it together in the end.

Memory of Running--Also good. I am not sure what the discussion groups would be. Although there are several topics that may bring some interest.

The Thirteenth Tale--Absolute drug store drivel. It tried so hard to be dramatic but was sadly predictable. Tried to put too many "twists" into the story. It's sad to see it struggle to be something shocking--it's not.

Double Bind--Who chose this title? Worst than a cheap super market paperback!! I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. Didn't care about the characters, "plot", or the attempt at drama likened to the days of "Dallas" and "Knotts Landing" soap operas. Please don't insult my intelligence with something like this!
