"In recent years one of my favorite fiction books was The Deep End of the Ocean by Jacquelyn Mitchard. This book grabs you from the start, as the story unfolds of an abducted child - 3-year-old Ben Cappadora. His mom, Beth had taken her three children with her to Chicago, where she was to attend her 15th high school reunion. Ben's older brother Vincent was supposed to have been keeping track of his two younger siblings, 3-year-old Ben and little sister Kerry as they were in the middle of a crowded hotel lobby checking into the hotel. In the blink of an eye, Ben had vanished. This book takes the reader on the journey from the initial kidnapping through the next nine years.
I admire and appreciate Jacquelyn Mitchard's writing style and her uniquely descriptive way of giving us an up close and personal look at a family being torn apart. She zeroes in on the devastation of a parent's worst nightmare as it takes its toll on Beth's marriage and also on the relationship she has with her two other children. The Deep End of the Ocean is positively riveting and the ultimate page-turner. My criteria for a really great book is one I can't bear to put down and one I want to call and tell all my friends they should read immediately. This is definitely one of those books. If you're looking for a suspenseful, moving, gripping story that you can't predict and don't want to stop reading, this one will pull you in and hook you. Highly recommended!"
