The Wright Morris-Victor Musselman Correspondence

Biographical Sketch

Wright Morris (1910-1998), was born in Central City, Nebraska. The writer and photographer, author of over thirty books, received critical acclaim for his phototexts and novels that explored life on the Plains. Morris’s innovative work gained him three Guggenheim fellowships and and a National Book award, among other honors. He fictionalized Central City as “Lone Tree” in his novels, and wrote a number of books exploring his Nebraska roots. The Heritage Room owns original Morris prints as well as books and correspondence.

Origin of Collection: Victor Musselman donated his correspondence with Morris to Lincoln City Libraries in 1996.

Extent of Collection: 8 linear inches.

Storage: Filed in acid free folders with acid free dividers in two acid free document boxes. Temperature and humidity are controlled and monitored.

Abstract: The bulk of the collection consists of Morris’s letters to Musselman from the years 1928-1938. In addition there are photographs, newspaper clippings and Musselman’s copy of The Inhabitants.

Dates: Inclusive dates 1928-1980.

Rights: Victor Musselman transferred all of his rights in this collection to Lincoln City Libraries. The Morris estate owns the copyrights to Morris’s letters.

Restrictions: Researchers may view the materials and take notes in pencil only. Photocopying is not permitted. Lincoln City Libraries retains any rights it may have in previously unpublished materials. Researchers wishing to copy, quote from, or reproduce Morris’s letters must obtain permission directly from the Morris estate. Researchers are expected to follow all applicable copyright laws.
