How can we help you begin your research?

We'll be glad to look up information for you about Small Businesses -- or help you find what you need. Some examples:
  • An address or telephone number
  • The website for a company, name of the CEO,....
  • A list of all the businesses with more than 10 employees in Beatrice, or Hastings, or...
  • A list of motels and restaurants in Grand Island, or Nebraska City, or...
  • The cost of living in Kansas City, Missouri
  • Average pay rates for selected occupations in North Platte, or York, or...
  • Address and phone for the Chamber of Commerce in St. Joseph, MO, or...
  • The latest Consumer Price Index
  • Who has a certain telephone number or address

We can copy and fax a limited number of pages to you, at $0.25 a page, or mail information to you.

We have high-speed Internet access at all libraries, at no charge for use and limited charges for printing. (Call for more information)

We also have wireless access at all Lincoln City Libraries

We have access to annual reports for major Nebraska businesses.

We have a large collection of material from the City of Lincoln -- annual reports, Comprehensive Plans, etc.

Resources in Our Collection

Small business owners looking for suggestions on how to start or improve their business will find a wealth of material at the Lincoln City Libraries. Electronic databases full of relevant, up-to-date magazine and newspaper articles, print materials from well-known authors and research centers, and links to valuable, selected Internet websites provide both general and specific information on hundreds of topics, from taxes to licenses to marketing to training.

Electronic resources can be accessed 24/7 by anyone with a Lincoln City Libraries card. You can inquire about specific facts, figures, or addresses by phone or email or instant messaging. We can fax or mail you copies of forms, magazine articles, or other material. Most of the titles listed here can be checked out.

The following subscription databases and/or themed webliographies on the Lincoln City Libraries site can be used to access numerous articles and/or links to additional resources about Small Businesses on-line. The databases are resources the library has purchased for your use -- they are not available through a simple Internet search. Use your library card number for access to these paid databases. The webliographies below list dozens of librarian-selected free Internet sites for a wide variety of subjects -- for example, the Small Business Administration and the Census Bureau [If you have difficulty accessing or using the databases, please contact the Reference Department at 441-8530 for assistance.]

Please include your name and a valid e-mail or postal address. If you have a Lincoln City Libraries card, please include your card number as well. Local customers may include a telephone number for a response by phone. Sorry, but we cannot make long-distance telephone calls.

Fees

The following fees, approved by the Library Board, are effective as of July 1, 2008.

Questions about library holdings and services are answered at no charge. Reference requests will be charged as follows:

Customers with Lincoln City Libraries cards:

  • No charge for research (maximum research time of one hour per name/item researched).
  • No charge for printouts from Internet resources, but there is a maximum of twenty pages.
  • Photocopies or microfilm/microfiche printouts are 25 cents each.
Customers without Lincoln City Libraries cards:
  • $5.00 per item or name researched. Please note that this fee is charged for each item or name researched, and applies even in cases where no information can be found.
  • Maximum of one hour of research time per request.
  • Photocopies or printouts are 25 cents each.
  • Payment in advance is required for research over $20.00
Faxes:
  • Fax charges are in addition to the research fees described above.
  • To local phone numbers: 25 cents per page (excluding cover page)
  • To long distance numbers: $5.00 plus 25 cents per page (excluding cover page)
  • The fax cover sheet serves as an invoice.
