About Interlibrary Loan

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan is a service available to current Lincoln City Libraries (LCL) card holders. This reciprocal service allows customers to borrow materials from other libraries across the nation unavailable in the LCL system. Since most libraries will not loan materials published or produced within the last 12 months, it is suggested that customers submit a Suggest-A-Title form for new materials rather than submitting an Interlibrary Loan request.

Who may use ILL?

Any individual who has an unrestricted LCL card in good standing may use this service. Patron accounts must be in accordance with current circulation rules.

How do I submit an ILL request?

Log in through our Online Resources and Interlibrary Loan page to create an Interlibrary Loan account using your library card number and your 4-digit PIN number. Staff is available to assist with creating accounts. Once you have created your account, you can use it to place Interlibrary Loan requests; requests can be made either by filling out one of the online forms in your Interlibrary Loan account, or by looking up the item you want on WorldCat and clicking the “Borrow from another Library” link in its record. You can also review ILL items currently checked out, follow the status of your requests, request renewals online, and review a history of items that have been ordered. Allow 2-4 weeks for materials to arrive.

What happens if I get a new Library card number?

If your Library card is replaced, your Interlibrary Loan account will be automatically updated to use the new number.

Terms of Use

Circulation rules, including loan periods and use of materials, are set by the lending library. Patrons will be held responsible for any charges incurred for damaged or lost items set by the lending library.

A fee of $3.50 per request for all physical items to offset the cost of shipping of materials is to be paid to LCL and is due when the patron picks up materials. (There is no longer a charge for online article exchange.) Patrons are responsible for this fee even if they do not pick up the materials.

The lending library may impose a service fee. If it does, the patron will be informed of, and must agree to, that fee before the item is sent.

Patrons who do not comply with the Terms of Use may lose any further Interlibrary Loan privileges.

By proceeding to place an Interlibrary Loan request, you acknowledge and agree to all of the terms and conditions above.
