Lincoln City Libraries Hosts Author Visit April 26
Lincoln City Libraries invites community members to a presentation by author Dean B. Settle, on Saturday, April 26. Settle will discuss his new book, Inside Nebraska Courthouses, at 11 a.m. at Bennett Martin Public Library, 136 S. 14th St.
Settle’s book offers an in-depth look at Nebraska’s 93 county courthouses, blending photography, architectural insight and personal storytelling. Each courthouse is presented as both a historical artifact and a living symbol of civic life, reflecting the values, struggles and traditions of the communities they serve.
Settle traveled the state with his late wife, Harriet R. Grossbart, to visit every courthouse featured in the book. Their journey became both a research mission and a celebration of Nebraska’s architectural heritage.
Originally from Iowa, Settle earned degrees from the University of Northern Iowa and pursued postgraduate work at the University of Wisconsin and DePaul University. Over a 51-year career in behavioral health, he led systems of care across Iowa, Kansas, California and Nebraska. He moved to Lincoln in 1989 and has since been active in numerous community organizations, including Rotary Club 14.
