New Mural at South Branch Library

Where Art and Community Meet: Celebrating the Heart of South Branch Library

South Branch Library is now home to a delightful new mural, designed by local artist Chloe Burgett. Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and community leaders recently dedicated the artwork, calling it “a celebration of the people in the neighborhood.” The vibrant mural is located on the west side of the library at 2675 South Street and it reflects the civic pride and a love of reading that defines the community.

Selected from 37 submissions, Burgett’s design was painted with the help of the community. The 24-by-10 foot mural celebrates the charm of the surrounding area, with subtle details woven into the design that highlight the character of the neighborhood. Burgett, an artist and children's book illustrator, shared her inspiration: “These details are my way of celebrating the neighborhood’s charm and character, and I hope they spark a sense of recognition and pride for everyone who passes by.”

The mural was made possible by a $10,000 grant from the Country Club Neighborhood Association, with administrative support from the Lux Center for the Arts. The project represents a collaboration between the City, the Lux Center, and the community, making it a true reflection of neighborhood spirit.

Lincoln City Libraries Director Ryan Wieber emphasized the importance of public art, noting that it fosters connection and enriches the community: “This mural serves as a reminder of the power of reading, lifelong learning, and the vital role that libraries play in enhancing the quality of life for our neighborhoods.”
