For all ages!
What’s different this year?
Due to the pandemic, we will not have any in-person events or Library Learning Times in June or July. We aren’t sure yet when our buildings will be open to the public. But we know reading and learning AREN’T canceled and we hope everyone will have a great Summer Reading Challenge experience.
There will be no Summer Reading Challenge Kick-off game with the Lincoln Saltdogs.
We still don’t know if there will be end-of summer pool parties or Recognition Nights with the Lincoln Saltdogs.
When can we start OUR 2020 Summer Reading Challenge?
The Summer Reading Challenge will start June 1 and you can register by logging into your Beanstack account starting May 26. If you need to create an account, it’s fast and easy to do by following the steps on the Beanstack landing page on the library website.
Or, you can register using the Beanstack Tracker app.
If our buildings are still closed June 1, our staff are working in the building and will be happy to help you set up an account by phone, retrieve your user name, or reset a password if you encounter any problems.
What are the coupon prizes for this year?
As in past years, all age groups will earn coupons for completing the challenge from our generous sponsors for free food, fun activities, and discounts on books and other treats.

How do I earn tickets?
You earn a ticket:
Are there drawing prizes this year?
Yes, one lucky person will win a Grand Prize for completing the challenge.
We like to keep track of our reading on paper booklets, and we love stickers. How do we get those?
If our buildings are not open we will have book bags, and Summer Reading Challenge activity booklets with stickers available in boxes outside of our libraries. Each booklet will have 5 large stickers and 10 small stickers. Kids can use their stickers however they want.
Just remember, even if you are using our paper booklets, you still need to be registered in Beanstack.
What do I need to do to complete the Summer Reading Challenge?
This year the goals are the same for children, teens and adults: 10 hours of reading, and completing 8 of the 16 reading activities.
How and when do we pick up our coupon sheets for completing the program?
Coupon sheets will be available July 1.
If you are logging everything on Beanstack, it will let you know when you have completed the requirements of the program. If you are doing paper only, call the library and let us know you’ve completed the program so we can record it in Beanstack.
Depending on our circumstances, we can offer curbside pickup of your coupon sheets, or we can mail them to you. If our buildings are open, you can come in to pick them up.
What’s fun and new this year?
This summer we are encouraging youth and their families to read books from the 2020 edition of our Top 100 Novels for Youth list. This list is a diverse collection of classics, modern favorites, and award winners.
We are offering a virtual daily Toddler Time at 9:30 a.m. and a Preschool Storytime at 10:00 a.m., Monday through Saturday on our Read Aloud Lincoln Facebook page. Your children can see some of their favorite Library Learning Time storytellers, as well as a few they may not be familiar with.
Be on the lookout for other virtual programs this summer for youth, teens, and adults.
We are also offering a book bundle service. Our staff can create bags of five to ten books on any subject or pull a few book by your favorite author. Call your library or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Give us some time to pull things together, and we’ll give you a call when your bundle is ready for pick-up!
