Summer Reading Challenge

The 2019 Summer Reading Challenge begins May 24, but you can register now.

Information about our special Summer Reading Challenge events is now available – please see the links below for each age group!

Here is information about our County Outreach sites.


For Children: Birth through fifth grade:

Children registering for the Summer Reading Challenge will receive:

  • a book bag
  • a coupon for a free kid’s meal from Slim Chickens
  • a ticket for free admission to a Saltdogs baseball game, Saturday, June 8

Children Completing the Summer Reading Challenge by reading 10 hours, visiting the library 4 times, and completing 10 activities will receive coupons for:

Book Groups Available

Stories for Everybody
This bilingual (Spanish and English) book group is designed for elementary-age children and their families. A different book is read and discussed each week. To register, call Julie (Spanish speaker)

Read Aloud Please
RAP is a parent-child book group for students going into grades 1 to 3 and their parents. Call 402-441-8560 to register.


A Universe of Stories

For Teens: entering sixth through twelfth grades:

Teens registering for the Summer Reading Challenge will:

  • receive a ticket for free admission to a Saltdogs baseball game, Saturday, June 8
  • be entered for weekly drawings for $25 gift cards

Teens completing the Summer Reading Challenge by reading 10 hours, and completing 4 activities will receive coupons for:

Adults registering for the Summer Reading Program will:

  • receive a ticket for free admission to a Saltdogs baseball game, Saturday, June 8
  • be entered for weekly drawings for book lover’s gift bags, which include a themed tote bag, an aluminum bike bottle, a luminous car charger, a notebook, a cosmic magnetic sculpture, and a gift card or merchandise from a local business sponsor
