May 2010 Mystery Recommendations from Just Desserts

At the May Just Desserts meeting, last week, after discussing our monthly “assigned” book, we did a round robin at the table, asking attendees to share what mysteries they’d been reading lately that they felt they could recommend. Here’s a list of the novels and DVD sets that were hot in May with this mystery-savvy crowd:

  • Knots & Crosses by Ian Rankin (series previously used for Just Desserts discussion)
  • The Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Michael Chabon
  • A River in the Sky by Elizabeth Peters
  • The Cold Dish by Craig Johnson
  • Exposed by Alex Kava
  • Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane
  • The Broken Vase, a Tecumseh Fox novel by Rex Stout
  • A Twist of Orchids by Michelle Wan
  • Cursed by Carol Higgins Clark
  • Farrier’s Lane by Anne Perry
  • A Most Wanted Man by John Le Carre (on CD)
  • Cat of the Century by Rita Mae Brown
  • The Kate Shugak series by Dana Stabenow (series previously used for Just Desserts discussion)

C.J. Box’s “Out of Range”

outofrangeJust Desserts Logo 225During our May 2010 meeting, the Just Desserts mystery group discussed C.J. Box’s Wyoming-set mystery Out of Range; the 5th volume in his Joe Pickett game warden series.

This book was discussed at the Just Desserts meeting on May 20, 2010. Whether or not you attended the actual meeting, you are welcome to share your own thoughts and opinions about this book in a reply comment to this blog post, below.

Shirley Rousseau Murphy’s “Cat Fear No Evil”
